Welcome
The Storytime Database is an index of material commonly used in a storytime in libraries, schools, or daycare settings. Users can create a unique list of material to make each story hour different from the one before.
We have indexed over 35,000 poems (all forms), songs (lyrics and CD), rhymes (action, nursery, jump rope), and crafts from over 1,000 titles. In addition, we have added records for over 20,000 picture books.
Sometimes it is easy to identify a poem's subject by the title, such as "A Vampire Makes a Wonderful Daddy Because" from the collection Trick-or-Treat: A Happy Haunter’s Halloween (Simon & Schuster, 2013)1. However, many times the subject cannot be determined from the title. The poem "Why I’m Late for School" from the collection World Rat Day: Poems About Real Holidays You’ve Never Heard Of (Candlewick Press, 2013)2 is about a ... hippopotamus and celebrates National Hippo Day (February 15). In the Storytime Database, you will be able to search for "hippopotamus" and discover over 100 picture books, poems, songs, and rhymes with one search. And that is just one of the 3,000 subjects indexed.
In the interest of transparency, we want potential subscribers to know that the Storytime Database does not offer full-text of poems or songs protected by copyright. We will offer full-text of poems and songs in the public domain in the near future.
